Custom abbreviations for apps
Right now Monarch supports abbreviations like gc for Chrome and vsc for Visual Studio Code, as you note in your manual. I would like to be able to define a custom abbreviation for any arbitrary app. This can use the Superlink interface or a new interface.

I’m wondering how soon is “soon” considering this request is up for 2 years now. I’ve stumbled across this is lack of feature this weekend because my muscle memory just doesn’t transfer well to Monarch. I’ve been using “aps” to launch the “App Store”, “vink” is for “VoiceInk”. Would love to see progress with this feature.

“soon” is now a lot sooner, we’ve done a lot of improvements to the Monarch’s engine, and I appreciate you resurfacing this. This is essentially what other launchers refer to as Aliases. Because of where we are, I’ll look into building this today. If it works well, then I’ll release it same day. Thanks again Andreas!

I’m glad to hear you’re making progress. You seem incredibly close to a version 1.00 release. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

This was completed early this morning and made available in the release of v0.9.48!

Variables seemed to do this, but they were removed. Aliases would be a great addition, but I’d love to see the return of variables. Will be especially useful in tandem potential features like being able to make API requests.

Interesting. I’m thinking that variables were more useful than I realized. I was using them mostly for faster calculations.
They are actually more like “disabled” in the new version in that a lot of the structure for variables is still there (in case I brought them back).
What API requests are you referring to?

I saw that on a demo, and I thought it was absolutely amazing! It would be great if it could be “re-enabled” in a future update soon 😃 I am referring to “Ability to consume APIs” feature request. It seems completely natural to have variables with this (e.g. API keys).
